The Fiestas de Maiz are an annual event in Upala celebrate October 13; festivities center around the corn crop and include the crowing of a Corn Queen and a corn-product costume parade made entirely of corn husk, grains, silks along with the typical foods and dishes made of corn.

They have a very interesting boat race that remeber our indians – Building a rustic boat called Balsa with tree poles.
This is a traditional boat race. They start from the Bridge of Canalete River usually in the morning.
